A burger joint called "Jack's Coffee Shop"...where there is no Jack, and they serve no coffee...

It was the shadiest place on earth, but made "Best Hole-in-the-wall" Restaraunt last year....and BOY was it. This place sells 4 things, plus cans of pop...small and large cheeseburgers and hamburgers. The smalls are 3/4 lb. The large are a pound. You walk in, and there's no floor but concrete, one grill and a fridge on one side, a bunch of old carpets rolled up in one corner....when you order it coms with chips, so this gruff old-ish woman comes over and drops a cheap Christmas-adored plastic bowl of potato chips in the middle of our table...

and then begins the parade of beef.

With 8 people at our table, we probably had 11 pounds of beef. C.R.A.Z.Y. These burgers were so big that a "large" was an inch think, and so big around that 2 Kraft Singles cheese slices couldn't cover their massive faces. The burger extended so far past the bun in the center that it was the antithesis of my old bib "Wheres's the beef" to "where's the bun?"...two guys got doubles, and it looked like the size of a small rump roast...

So, hear hear to the opposite of fine-dining. Where the food is good but cheap with a side of "I hope I don't get sick", where the wait staff tells you to come get your own cup of water from the counter, where, when there may not be enough seating they tell you "we don't have enough room...but if you bring your own table and chairs, we'll feed ya," where a large party with instant gratuity included is a whopping FIVE or more, and where the people who work there may have never heard of this cheery thing called a smile.

But it was fun, the laughter (the brunt of some of it shall remain anonymous...;)...perhaps the restaraunt itself with its collection of rolled carpets?) the company funny, and the whole experience enlightening us to what the new "low" in dining can be. :)

I asked the woman at the front (through curiousty of my own and the innocent bet of 1 dollar on the table...just to make things fun...i never got a dollar...) where the carpets came from, and why they were there.

"I don't know where they came from. They just showed up one day, and I'm hoping whoever dropped them off will take them away some day..."

Classy.
